Increase Productivity By Improving Your Electronic Etiquette
According to an article in the February 10, 2010 issue of the Toronto Sun, 42% of chief information officers have seen increased instances of poor workplace etiquette because of mobile electronic devices. This increase in technology usage obviously does not translate into a time saver for many. Here are some ways to save time in your work day by improving your etiquette:
1. Only wear your earpiece when you are speaking with someone on the phone. By wearing it as part of your outfit, individuals often assume the person is on the phone, and waste unnecessary time waiting on them.
2. Don't email or text while on the phone. Studies show that many adults aren't able to multitask well and doing both actions at the same time usually results in mis-communication.
3. Texting is considered a casual form of communication so should never be used for initial contacts, important conversations, or bad news.
4. Avoid texting while having a face-to-face conversation with someone - it's considered very rude.
5. Never assume the person you're sending a text message to is familiar with the service or accepts texting on their phone.
